Jaiaen's Brenna - Tribute to Rio

Mom, Garrett, and I went to the Northwest English Shepherd gathering with absolutely no intention of getting another dog. I had found out August 7 that my female, Quincy's hips were scored too low to breed again, so I was sort of on the look out for another female, but in the back of my mind I didn't think I would get one until Spring. In the breeder line up, one of the breeders introduced herself and her dogs, then she said "If any of you are interested, I know someone who has pups right now and they will be ready to go at the beginning of October." I was interested, so I talked to her about them, and then we took a detour to go look at pups. Now I had no intention on getting a black and white pup, as I like the other colors that English Shepherds have to offer, and I didn't want to have to answer the "is this a Border Collie?" question a million time. The ideal color that I wanted was clear Sable and White, imagine my excitement when we got there and there was a Clear Sable and White female, among mostly black and white pups (there were two tri, but black and white far out numbered the lot). I was so sure that this little girl was the one God wanted for me that I said ok I will take the pup, if she fits the temperament that I want. I talked with Jaiaen (the breeder of the litter) for quite some time about the pedigree, by then it was dark and we had a long way to go still. Jaiaen very generously offered us a cabin in the back of her property for us to spend the night in. The biggest problem with that was we had 3 dogs with us that are not inside dogs, but we gave it a shot, and they did really well...until about 5:30am. When I went outside to let them go to the bathroom I saw that Jaiaen was up and taking care of the puppies, so I went over to help. That's when I first started to notice this little black and white pup who wandered up to me and sat in my lap for a good half hour and cuddled. 

Anyway when the pups were 6 weeks old I heard from Jaiaen and she said that the best pup all around for breeding was the little black and white girl that cuddled with me. I almost said "well never mind then." But I felt bad because I kind-of jumped in with both feet, so come the first week of October we headed out to go get her. And I am so glad I did. She is exactly what I wanted all the way around for a female.

I had the name Fiona (meaning Fair haired and heart) all picked out for my next female, but it didn't exactly fit so all the way home we were trying to find another name for her. We came up with Brenna, meaning beautiful with hair black as a Raven, it fit a little better.

 Shortly after I got her, I went to help out at a local ranchers elk camp and took her along. She was exposed to a million new experiences and did really good as a whole. She is shy by nature so being exposed to 30+ men, elk, and just having one on one time  was really good for her.

 She was a little scared of the bigger dogs when we first brought her home, but she and Garrett's pup Xavier really hit it off and helped her get over it all. She still doesn't like Quincy and Conrad that much, but now its just pecking order.

I am so pleased with this girl, and am looking forward to watching her grow!

Busta's KC Summer S.K.Y. (Aka Patsie)

Here we are the last pup of the litter. Everybody meet Sky. By the time it came around to getting her named, my brothers were getting really silly with their names. She is the smallest female, so I was looking for a little girl kind of name. I decided to call her Patsie...doesn't that just sound like a little girl? She was amazingly sweet tempered from the get go. All the way through her growing up she was my favorite to take pictures of. I got very attached to her, so much so that when it was time for her to go to her new home, she came off like she was really shy and reserved, and she just stuck right to my leg. I actually had to sit on a picnic table while the new owner played with her on the ground :) She was so playful all the time. One time while I was sitting there watching the litter take a nap, she enlisted two of her siblings and together they proceeded to jump on every one of the other pups to wake them up. Just as soon as all the pups were up and ready to play she laid down and went to sleep. She got her new name is a rather unique way. Her new owner and I were meeting half way, due to the fact that it would be a long drive. I had planned on meeting the new owner at a certain park...in a town I had never been in before :) Well I confused the directions, I didn't know there was a North park and a South park with the same name. Anyway she stopped by a local middle school to try to get directions, the two people who were there were a fantastic help getting her there. One of their name's started with and "s" and the other with a "k", so the joke was made the the pup should be called S.K.
So that's how she got the name S.K.Y.

KC'S Dunn Creek Nell (AKA Lindor)

Like all the pups this little girl has a very special place in the litter. She was the first pup we got to see, I can't tell you how excited I was to get sable pups from this pairing! I had never even seen a sable dog in person before, just tri-colored and clear sables. Since it was Valentines day, we figured she needed a name to match the occation. Well we though chocolate, but Hersey didn't quite seem to match. My mom suggested Lindor (that's her favorite kind of chocolate), and that's how she got her birth name. If you use some imagination you can even see the chocolate kiss on her collar. She got renamed Nell when she went to her new home in Idaho. 

Right from the beginning you could see what kind of dog she was going to be. As soon as her eyes opened she was on the go. She loved to see new things and learn about what was going on around her. She fell in love with our Landlord's cows (much to his despair I must say), she had a fantastic herding instinct. She fast became my brother's favorite pup of the litter, she bonded with him, and followed him everywhere. She was somewhat of a one person dog, though she was fine with the rest of us, she never lit up as much as when he came outside. She is a fantastic dog and now is living on a fantastic home.

KC'S Maddie AKA Patella

KC's Maddie is a picture of a sweet tempered dog! She isn't really pushy and will sit calmly when given attention. She loves to cuddle and loves all ages. She is very curious and not easily frightened. When introduced into a new situation she does fantastic and takes time to look things over. When we put her in with our chickens, she wanted to go see them and sniff them out, but was never aggressive towards them. 

Loving KC'S Liberty AKA Britania

Liberty is a super sweet little girl! She loves affection, but she also is pretty independent. She will go off by herself sometimes, but when called she will always come a running. She was named by my little brother, Garrett, who was looking at an atlas at the time, he saw the word Britain...so she was born with the name Britania. She has always been very active and loves to explore, but at the same time she is the biggest attention hog of the litter!

When I had my first litter back in 2014, one of our very good friends, Sam who was 8 at the time, saw one of the puppies and fell in love with her.  Sam decided right then she was going to own an English Shepherd. Sam has worked really hard the last 2 years and now has enough money to ship a pup from Oregon to Texas and to pay for the puppy. I am so proud of her. When is sent her the Questionnaire, she took time to fill it out and give me all the details that were important to her. Now Sam is going to get her puppy at last. I know that this little girl is going to have a wonderful home and a wonderful life! She is moving to a small farm with lots of attention from little girls!
